How to Set up Firestick TV

Now that you have a Firestick, comes the setup process, which for some people can be complicated. That’s why we are here, to guide you through the process of setting it up until you are ready for watching and streaming movies and other content.

What do you need to set up an Amazon Fire TV Stick?

Before setting it up and getting it ready for watching high-quality movies, shows, and other content, you will need to get a few things ready, so you won’t have to worry about it when you are actually setting the Amazon Fire TV Stick up.

As for what you actually need, it depends on which firestick you have. At the moment there are three models available, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick, and Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite. This is important since out of these three only the Fire TV Stick Lite doesn’t come with a firestick remote out of the box, instead, you need to buy it separately, or you can use your phone as a remote by downloading their app. The remote is quite useful since you can also talk to Alexa directly.

Now that we talked about the need for the remote, we will talk about the other components that you need to set up your firestick. Apart from everything that comes with the firestick in the box, you will need a TV capable of handling a firestick, a decent internet connection, and of course an Amazon account.

How to set up a Firestick TV

Now that we know what we need in order to proceed with the process of setting up a firestick, we can start with that process.

Step #1

This should be a no-brainer, but first, you need to unbox the Amazon Fire TV Stick so you can take out all the parts which will be needed in the later steps of the process. Getting out all the parts will make everything easier later on.

Step #2

This step is not important for the moment, but it’s better to do it now and get rid of it, so you can proceed without having to worry about it in the middle of the process. So if you have a firestick that came out with a remote, you can put the AAA batteries in it.

Step #3

Now we need to work on the TV, you will need to find an HDMI port on your TV so you can plug the firestick, and if the HDMI port is a bit hard to reach and plug the stick, you can use the HDMI extender that comes in the box. That HDMI extender allows you to reach HDMI ports that might not be easy to reach or if their placement is not right for the size of the firestick.

Step #4

Now that the device is connected with the TV, you will need to power the firestick. Inside the box, there is a charger and a cable. Even though you might connect the firestick with the cable directly to the TV with USB, that is not recommended, since sometimes the USB port does not provide enough power for the stick. So it’s better to use the power adapter provided in the box, which is guaranteed to provide enough power for your firestick.

Step #5

Since the firestick is plugged in and powered, it is time to switch the input source on your TV to the HDMI one that you plugged the firestick.

Step #6

Connecting the remote is what’s next for this process. Usually, the firestick or the Amazon Fire TV device detects the remote automatically. If it’s not connected automatically, you can do it easily. First, you need to press and hold the Home button on your remote for around 10 seconds. After 10 seconds the remote and the Amazon Firestick should be connected. If not, try changing the batteries.

If you are using the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite, you don’t have a remote inside the box. You can buy one, but you can also use the app that can be downloaded on the Apple App Store, and the Google Play Store.

Setting up the phone app is also easy. First, open the app and select the device you will be using the app with. Once you choose the device, a four-digit code will show on your screen. Get that code and write it inside the app on your phone. Putting the code will automatically connect the app with the firestick. Using the remote app gives you access to everything on your firestick.

Step #7

Now that you have set up the remote or the app, press the Play button on your remote or app. Pressing the Play button will start the setup process.

Step #8

After pressing the Play button the first thing you will see is the “Choose the language” screen. There are quite a lot of supported languages, so go through the list and see if you can find your preferred language.

Step #9

Now that the language is selected, you will need to connect the firestick to your Wi-Fi. After the firestick scans for available networks, choose your Wi-Fi network, and enter your password. Once the firestick connects to your Wi-Fi, your device will have access to the internet.

Step #10

After you connect to your Wi-Fi, the device will require you to sign in to your Amazon account, or if you don’t have one, you can make one very easily there, by choosing the “New to Amazon? Create an Account” option. Whichever option you choose, you will need to input your private information, email, and password.

Step #11

The device will also give you an option to save the passwords inputted into the device, which will make connecting to compatible devices easier. You can also disable this feature, by going into the Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Passwords.

Step #12

Now you are faced with the option to enable Parental Controls or not. If you do so, you will be asked to enter a PIN before watching any content, launching apps, and purchasing content from the Amazon Store. Depending on if anyone else uses your firestick, or if you have kids, enabling this feature could be a smart choice.
